Danisa Baloyi, Hawa and Abubaker Khan welcome the decision by the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crime Court, sitting at Palm Ridge, where they all were acquitted, on 20 May 2022, on all charges levelled against them.
All 3 accused was represented by Adv Christo Meiring of the National Bar o Advocates and assisted by Mr Johan Eksteen of BDK Attorneys.
Charges were instituted in May 2019, in terms whereof, the State alleged that Hawa and Abubaker Khan, being directors of Merit Energy, in common purpose with Danisa Baloyi, the former President of the Black Business Council (BBC) and Dominic Ntsele of Incentive Driven Marketing (IDM) formed a common purpose to deprive the BBC of almost R 5 million sponsorship received from the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA), by funnelling the funds to the bank accounts of Merit Energy and IDM.
