Welcome to Workplace Wednesdays!
In a forthcoming series of articles, we will be discussing a range of topics surrounding the concept of labour laws and their specific relevance to you as the employee in a company and how these laws are applicable to your employment and your rights and obligations in the workplace.
The current set of labour laws, and there are quite a few, are presently undergoing amendments by the Department of Labour and request for comments have been made to various fields which will be submitted to the Minister of Labour in due course.
Some of the most important amendments that are underway are related to two very important laws, namely, the Basic Conditions of Employment Act 75 of 1997 and the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998. There have been some amendments to the Labour Relations Act 66 of 1995 with specific reference to the concept of dismissal. These are three of the main labour laws in effect today and these amendments will be carefully monitored by employer bodies and unions alike.
In an upcoming series of articles to be posted on BDK’s platforms, we’ll be examining the specific amendments in detail and their potential impact on you the employee in the workplace. It will be our aim to provide you with information that you will be able to use and discuss with others in your workplace, whereby you’ll be able to understand the laws and the amendments and how they impact you and offer you protection and duties. We’ll discuss relevant laws and how they affect you and how you’ll be able to utilise the specific of the law to ensure fairness and equity in your workplace.
